John McLaughlin’s flute-like guitar-synth tone on Is That So?
In interviews, John McLaughlin has mentioned using Logic’s ES2 for the synthesizer sound and MiGiC to convert his guitar signal into MIDI in real time.
I’m particularly interested in the nasal, flute/oboe-like sound of his guitar solos. The ES2 seems to explain the underlying synth patch, but what oscillator, filter, envelope, and modulation settings might produce that distinctive tone? It seems almost impossible to me.
