Flexi answers – How can an oscilloscope be used to measure voltage?
Flexi Says:
An oscilloscope can be used to measure voltage by displaying a waveform of the voltage signal on its screen. To do this, follow these steps:
- Connect the oscilloscope probe to the circuit or device where you want to measure the voltage.
- Turn on the oscilloscope and set the appropriate voltage scale (volts/division) and time scale (time/division) to display the waveform clearly.
- Observe the waveform on the screen and count the number of vertical divisions the waveform spans from its peak to its trough.
- Multiply the number of divisions by the volts/division setting to find the peak-to-peak voltage (Vpp).
- To find the RMS voltage (VRMS), divide the peak-to-peak voltage by 2√2 (approximately 2.83) if the waveform is sinusoidal. For non-sinusoidal waveforms, you may need to use additional calculations or functions provided by the oscilloscope.
By following these steps, you can use an oscilloscope to measure voltage accurately and visualize the waveform of the voltage signal.
