circuit design – low power rf ring oscillator transistors
I am trying to design a ring oscillator with RF transistors and was confused about the transistors that should be used. I have not found an explicit answer online – if you know of a resource I missed please share. I want to design an RF ring oscillator that can operate at the 2.4 GHz ISM band however, I am not sure which is the best way to approach this. This could be done with inverters in an IC package or this could be done by making the inverters with discrete transistors. I am not sure if there is a benefit to choosing one approach over the other and what tradeoffs are involved.
The second doubt I have is the type of transistor. I would like to make a low power ring oscillator. What transistors are suitable for this which are discrete?
edit: I have read a few IEEE papers where ring oscillators were developed for low power applications but all of them have been done on ICs. Would it be possible to make a 2.4 GHz ring oscillator with the CD4069UBE inverters on a PCB?
