xfce – How to regain control of display?
“ray” is a new desktop running Ubuntu 22.04.2 LTS. It can happen that I turn off the external display, and when I turn it back on the image does not come back. It’s not a matter of screen saver because I have that turned off and the image doesn’t come back when I type or move the mouse. It’s not a matter of the screen going bad because if I reboot the computer things go back to normal. It’s not that the computer is asleep because I can ssh from another computer and I see processes running (e.g. the windows that were open when I turned off the display).
Sometimes when this happens not even Ctrl-Alt-F1 (or some other number) will do anything — the screen just sits there dark.
I would like to be able to regain an image without having to reboot, and preferably without having to restart the window manager! Is there a magic command I can type via ssh?
The window manager is xubuntu-desktop. Any thoughts? I’ll be happy to provide any diagnostic output that will help, I just don’t know what to look for.
