Wanted – advice on tweakable, funky drum software – Instruments Forum

I’m new to soft-instruments, having a ball exploring them! I’m going to be getting Superior Drummer 3 soon for “real” drum sounds, but I would like an “out there” package that will let me program more electronic, heavy, distorted drums and tweak them a lot. I am going to explore Maschine, Drum Computer and BeatBox Anthology, would love opinions on these or advice on other packages I should consider. I definitely want to be able to distort, tweak and twist individual sounds. I would like to create drum tracks inside the software using its own sequencer as opposed to another method.

Also very curious how sampling fits in here – will do some reading on that topic.

FYI, I’m using Reaper as a DAW, if that matters.
