Waldorf Blofeld VST/AU Plug In + hardware editor – Page 9 – Instruments Forum

I stayed up way to late tonight to just about 4:00 in the East Coast of America playing and comparing the Blofeld Hardware, the Blofeld Software, and Largo

The Hardware was connected directly to my Mackie 1st Generation Pro FX16 into a stereo channel. The Largo and Blofeld were both hosted inside the same instance of Voltage Modular and then each was connected to individual stereo outs that came out of my interface directly into two stereo channels on my mixer. Everything was gain staged the same to match volumes and all of the EQ was flat. My goal was to have a real world comparison as equal as they could be

I connected the Blofeld hardware via MIDI to my controller, and used the USB MIDI from the same controller to feed both plugins. So when I pressed a key the same exact MIDI went to all 3

Finally since the reverbs are different between units, I ran them all dry, and no effects or compression was used on the mixer. With the exception of a few patches running through a Strymon Bigsky

In the end there was zero difference between the plugin Blofeld and the hardware Blofeld with the exception of the hardware having some slight noise/hiss on the output. It’s so close posting A/B examples which was my original idea would be pointless

When it came to contrasting them with Largo there are the same differences there always is

When running all three through the Bigsky they all sounded amazing and the differences between Largo and Blofeld are minimized

In the end I think Waldorf hit it out of the park. The Blofeld plugin is stunning. I can retire another well loved piece of hardware.gear and never look back

I do think however if you are a more casual user of this type of synth and you already own Largo that might be all you ever need/want Especially if you are going to use lush reverbs anyway
