Unable to boot windows10, converted from mbr to gpt – hdd does not show up under UEFI boot devices
For Windows11 prep, I am trying to convert my hdd to gpt on my Windows10 system.
After the conversion, I am unable to boot from the hdd – it does not show up in the list of UEFI boot devices. I do have two hdd’s and am experimenting on the backup hdd.
I have an older PC, an HP Elite 800G1 tower.
This is what I have done so far:
- Deleted the duplicate unused Windows recovery partition (as I had 4 partitions)
- Ran mbr2gpt to convert to GPT – Ran ok and diskpart showed it was now GPT
- HP BIOS boot menu does not show the hdd as a boot option (and it no longer boots as legacy)
- I then followed the instructions from SU: GPT drive not showing up as UEFI in bios:
- Deleted and recreated the EFI partition using diskpart
- re/set the correct GUID with diskpart
- booted windows recovery disk and used bcdboot to install bootloader files
- disk still does not show up in UEFI boot options
Here’s a screen shot of the drive from Macrium Reflect (I note it no longer has a named EFI partition, as it did at step 2 above):
