uefi – Why can’t my PC boot from a USB SSD, when it can from a USB memory stick?
I used Gnome’s MultiWriter to create an installation medium for Windows 10. The app recognised both
- a Sandisk USB 3.0 16GB memory stick and
- a 250GB SSD through a USB3.0-to-SATA adapter
, as the destination. But, since (2) is like 10x faster than (1) when writing the ISO to it, I would like to use (2).
The problem is that my computer’s UEFI could not detect (2) as a boot source, when it did for (1). Why is it so? Is it not possible to use an SSD like this instead of a USB stick? Or is this a problem of my particular USB-to-SATA adapter and with the correct adapter, it is possible?
