Twisted Electrons vMegaFm vs other Sega VST Emulations (RYM 2612) etc. – Instruments Forum
The difference, in my opinion, is a bit overstated by some people. vMegaFM (like the hardware) does have a bit more crunch than other YM2612 emulations. My theory is that they do less aggressive filtering of the chip’s output. But the overall sound is more similar than it is different. I would say if you already own something like Chipsynth MD or RYM2612 you probably don’t *need* vMegaFM. It is objectively less versatile than Chipsynth MD, which gives you: voice stacking, more modulation options, the PSG oscillators, more/better effects, options for which actual model of Genesis you’re emulating, DAC and filtering options, better visual indications of patch architecture, etc.
