not OP, but i’m going to wager a guess: i think they’re not actually compressing the green audio signal – the red audio signal is probably an audio file of pure “silence” + maximum DC offset — in other words, a waveform that’s just a flat line at the top of the screen. Then you can put a compressor on this signal, sidechain it to a transient, and any oscillosope of the resulting output will just end up looking exactly like a GR graph.
but, again, just a guess.
