Tracktion Waveform Pro cannot handle 32 bit audio? (in: Tracktion)

I always render internally at 32 bit and drag those files between projects, no problems. Generally those will be smaller files. Higher sample rates don’t really play nice for me, and my PC is decent. You can try switching on ‘use proxy file’ in the audio clip’s control panel, although that slows down editing as every change will be processed and redrawn. I take it your interface and Waveform are set to 96k already…
