Tonecraft Tokyo VARIANZ DRIFT

Programmed drums tend to sound stiff because every hit is the same. VARIANZ DRIFT is an 8-channel drum synth with a step sequencer that builds each hit as it plays, so pitch, length, brightness and timing move a little from one hit to the next.

Turn up FLUX and the same pattern starts to breathe. The movement comes from a SEED number: set REPEAT to LOCKED, note the number, and a take you like comes back whenever you want it. Turn up WEAR and the kit slowly wears out as it keeps playing.

35 kits and 104 patterns, freely combined. Each channel can go to its own output, and you can drag the pattern into your DAW as a MIDI file. The screen is shown in English or Japanese, following your OS display language.

Mac users: the plugin is not notarized. After copying it, run the xattr command described in README_EN.txt, or macOS will say the plugin “is damaged”.
