Synths with an extensive amp envelope (in: Instruments)

I always thought, the hold in an AHDSR is kind of unnecessary if you can shape the curve exponentially. What I miss in every envelope is a peak parameter. Its absolutely crucial for expressive playing with aftertouch for example. Usually the velocity is applied to the volume of a complete envelope. You can’t play a soft attack and then let swell the sound louder than the volume determined by the velocity.
