Solved: How to move or recreate the EFI partition after cloning the original hard drive (Windows 10)
The computer boots to the new SSD drive just fine, but It does so using the Windows Boot Manager that is located on the old HDD. If I remove the old HDD, the computer does not boot.
I found many articles about this exact issue, but each one has something that is confusing or that does not apply to me. For example, they may discuss creating an EFI partition on the SSD, but there is already one there. They talk about formatting the EFI partition as FAT32. Mine appears to be RAW. They talk about copying the contents from the old HDD to the SSD’s EFI partition but I can’t see the contents.
I see articles about BCDBOOT, which seems to do what I want, but I am unsure of the syntax.
If I remove the HDD, the boot manager cannot find Windows. Would booting from a Windows USB installation stick and running Startup Repair fix the problem? I am afraid to do anything that will make me lose the data on the SSD, (I have a backup, but still, it would be a challenge to reinstall the apps,) I read that there may be issues with the Dell OEM, but Windows reports that the new installation is licensed and activated.
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
