However, many times I found out they’re too simple and don’t allow me to make a modulation that I need, or have another envelope to tweak or fix the sound. It’s not cool to find out a great promising sound has some issues that cannot be fixed. That is why a plenty (or unlimited) modulation slots can be very important.
As to simple sounds – sometimes I want to make simple, bread-and-butter sounds, sometimes wish to go deep in sound design. For some genres it is very important to have advanced synthesis capabilities, for some others – not.
Then, a simple and sparse arrangement can take a lot of sound design, while in, for instance, uplifting trance any elaborate and complex sound will get lost and become inaudible.
