saturation/distortion with excellent anti-aliasing (in: Effects)

Thanks everyone for the advice! I’ve been trying out apShaper and it looks like it performs quite well. I’ll have to try some of the other suggested plugins like The Scream, Kelvin, and so on also. I am also tempted to try what El°HYM suggested and use a pedal or two.

It depends. With high notes, yes, especially if I bend them, whereupon I get all that formant-like ya ya ya stuff. With lower notes and complex chords and whatnot, even if the sound is fairly bright, with a lot of high frequenc…
