I’m not sure about creating the sound of a generation, but he does seem to be credited on a number of records where the sound is very clean and well produced. Which obviously is not a bad thing. And I’ve certainly got a lot of records that he’s mixed
Having said that, he did Angel Dust (and the Real Thing), and that is certainly not a stab at commerciality!

One producer that did shape the sound of a generation is Ross Robinson. And that sound is Nu Metal.
