remote desktop – XRDP on Raspberry Pi shows only a black screen

I have installed XRDP on my Raspberry Pi to access it via Remote Desktop.
The corresponding port is open, and I can successfully log in using the Remote Desktop Connection.

However, after logging in, I only see a black screen. When I right-click, a menu appears with some options (see the attached image).

I have already tried the following:

  • Ensuring that the XRDP service is running.
  • Checking that the default desktop environment (e.g., LXDE, XFCE,
    etc.) is correctly installed.
  • Restarting XRDP and the Raspberry Pi multiple times.

Does anyone have an idea how to get the desktop environment displayed
correctly?

System details:

  • Raspberry Pi model: Raspberry Pi 4B
  • Operating system: Raspberry Pi OS 64-bit
