Powering up – new transmitters installed for Country 94.1 and Magic 97 – SwiftCurrentOnline.com

Swift Current’s two FM radio stations recently received some significant infrastructure upgrades.

Last week Country 94.1 and Magic 97.1 were switched over to brand new Nautel transmitters replacing the Continental Electronics’  that were at least 30 years old.

Dave Funk, broadcast technologist for Golden West Broadcasting in Swift Current, said there should be one big improvement the listening audience should experience.

“We should see an improved reception, especially in the fringe areas of our broadcast signal for both our FM stations,” he said.

The upgrades to the main transmitters will mitigate the late-night calls Funk receives due to the aging technology that’s been prone to failure.

“Having to switch to our low power backup transmitters when we do have something fail at the main transmitter, then our listeners would suffer because their signal would no longer be available and you’d hear static,” he said.
