Post-harvest Loss Mitigation and Smart Storage Management Using IoT and Azure Digital Twin

Post-harvest loss poses a significant challenge to global food security, particularly in developing nations where storage inefficiencies lead to substantial wastage. This study proposes an IoT-enabled Digital Twin solution designed to minimize post-harvest losses through smart storage management. Utilizing a Raspberry Pi integrated with DHT11 and MQ sensors, the system collects real-time environmental data, including temperature, humidity, and gas concentrations. The data is transmitted via Azure IoT Hub to a Digital Twin platform on Microsoft Azure, enabling real-time monitoring, simulation, and predictive analytics. Microsoft Azure multiple services analyze the data to provide actionable insights, facilitating proactive interventions to mitigate spoilage risks. By integrating low-cost hardware with scalable cloud services, this solution has the potential to significantly reduce post-harvest waste and enhance agricultural sustainability.
