One “fix” is to use vPlayer. It is a stand alone application where you can load both AU and VST. You can then route vPlayer to your DAW, via connector applications like Blackhole. Both vPlayer and Blackhole have free versions.
Synth1 is more stable in vPlayer than under Logic and/or Cubase (my DAWs). It is not 100% stable but at least more stable. Cubase crashes 100% of the time trying to load up presets in Synth 1. Logic is slightly better. vPlayer is best.
