This is not typical and sounds like some aspect of your hardware or Mac OS install are having issues.
The application installers are separate from the activation stuff (other than they check with the activation manager’s license engine to see if they’re allowed to run) so reinstalling apps won’t really change much unless your issues were related to plugin files / permissions which got messed up.
