Reaper: Microtonic and Battery together. Microtonic is a great drum synth with a sequencer, the MIDI output can drive the next plugin and the audio gets mixed. (And in REAPER it is easy to re-route channels about).

Reason: Kompulsion (sequencer) or Redrum driving Kong. Setting it up with Redrum is a bit of a nuisance, but allows you to layer synth and sample without linking pads.

Bitwig: Drum Machine (similar to Ableton Live drum rack: each pad can have whatever chain you like. FM8 is a very good drum voice!) So far mostly with the clip launcher, but could drive with another sequencer…
