linux – How to fix two Windows Boot Managers on PC?
The problem is,
I used to dual boot Windows 11 and Fedora KDE, and after some mild filesystem stupidity, broke my windows partiton. Now, I installed Windows again, and after rebooting, I found two boot managers! One booted straight to my new partition, (on volume 5), and the other booted a recovery environment that tried to do repairs, and failed, but gave me the option to boot to the new one, now the REAL problem is… Fedora cant see the new windows install. It only provides the one to the old one, and I tried regenrationg the GRUB config, it ran os-prober, but only saw the old one. I tried looking through my ESP, but I found… One windows? And my bios also still shows the two managers after deleting the bad one.
Here is me regenerating GRUB.
Generating grub configuration file …
Found Windows Boot Manager on /dev/nvme0n1p1@/EFI/Microsoft/Boot/bootmgfw.efi
Adding boot menu entry for UEFI Firmware Settings …
done
As the output says, it sees the old one on partition one, when it should see the new one on partiton 5.
TLDR,
Windows used to stay on Partition 1 before being deleted, after that, its boot option still remained, even after reinstall, two boot managers existed side by side, and fedora GRUB could not see the proper one. In addition, the bad, broken one keeps “regenerating” after deletion.
