Before I got the UADx LA-2A bundle, I used IK Multimedia White 2A. Like Universal Audio, IK actually modeled the physics of the luminescent panel and optical sensor of the T4 cell, and the tube amplifier. The result is pretty close to the UAD LA-2A (though IK’s tube model isn’t nearly as “hot” as UA’s.)
What IK didn’t model, though, is the R37 HF sensitivity control, which is crucial for reproducing the full range of the LA-2A’s behavior. About a year ago, UA released a free version of the LA2A…
