It has been revealed that NVIDIA will equip 1 billion RISC-V…

NVIDIA’s GPU, which has gained attention in virtual currency mining and AI training, has been quietly undergoing a revolution internally. The company revealed at the RISC-V Summit that it plans to ship approximately 1 billion RISC-V cores by 2024. In fact, since 2015, the heart of the company’s GPU has been using a RISC-V based microcontroller with an open architecture.
While GPUs may appear to be simple arithmetic units at first glance, they are actually designed as complex systems with a wide range of functions such as power management, display control, security, etc. Traditionally, NVIDIA has been using their own developed “Falcon” microcontroller for these controls. However, in 2015, the company made a significant decision to replace these controllers with RISC-V based designs. Today, almost all microcontrollers are based on RISC-V design.
