How to reduce latency in Twilio Conference Calls with Swedish Numbers while maintaining Caller ID?
I’m using Twilio to make outbound calls to people in Sweden. During these calls, I need to play pre-recorded audio messages to the callee. To achieve this, I’ve set up a Twilio conference call where I use the Play audio feature via the Announcement functionality on participants.
Here’s my current setup:
- US Region: I can use my own Swedish number (+46) as the “from” number. This maintains caller ID consistency, which is crucial as recipients are more likely to answer calls from a familiar number. However, the issue I’m facing is that there’s a noticeable latency when playing pre-recorded audio. This makes the conversation feel unnatural and disruptive.
- Ireland Region: The latency issue is significantly reduced, leading to smoother and more natural conversations. However, I’m forced to use a non-Swedish number as the “from” number, which leads to a lower answer rate since recipients are suspicious of foreign numbers.
- For the audio files, I have followed the best practice mentioned by Twilio. Using Audacity, I convert the audio to 8-bit uLaw .wmv files. I also set cache headers to let Twilio cache the audio files based on this page.
I’m stuck between two suboptimal options:
- US Region: Better caller ID but poor audio latency.
- Ireland Region: Better latency but poor caller ID.
My questions are:
- Is there a way to reduce the latency when using the US region with a Swedish number?
- Are there any best practices or alternative approaches that could allow me to maintain a Swedish caller ID while also ensuring low latency for audio playback?
- Could there be a better way to set up Twilio for this use case that I haven’t considered?
Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated!
