Help verifying virtualbox download – Ask Ubuntu

I’m new to Linux, and I’m trying to verify my virtualbox download by following the instructions provided on their website, however, when I enter:
sudo gpg --dearmor oracle_vbox_2016.asc --yes --output /usr/share/keyrings/oracle-virtualbox-2016.gpg

I get:
gpg: Note: '--yes' is not considered an option
gpg: Note: '--output' is not considered an option
usage: gpg [options] --dearmor [file]

When I try to verify the .deb file with a command like this:
gpg --verify [signature-file] [file]

I get: gpg: verify signatures failed: Unexpected error

What do I do? Is it really necessary to verify the .deb I downloaded from their website if I can download via the command line with sudo apt-get install virtualbox-6.1 anyway?

Thanks.
