Also do invest just a little bit of time on making the plugin pretty.

Basically a lot of time when one is looking at new plugins, the first thing one looks at is the screenshots, because even though it doesn’t really matter if it’s flat shapes or shiny 3D renders or whatever in between, there is some correllation (obviously with exceptions both ways, but that’s kinda missing the point) between the effort and polish put into the interface vs. effort and polish put into rest of the plugin.
