It depends on size relative to distance from it. The point is to allow you to see the width extents better by bringing it closer to you. I have a 32″ curved that is 2 feet from me. I slightly notice the curve but it isn’t all that noticeable, and my peripheral vision can see all of it at this aspect ratio.

Is it necessary? No. Is it an upgrade from a flat monitor? At the same size and above a certain size, I think so. I have a 23″ next to it and it’s simply not as large, so is fine flat since I can see the entire screen two feet from it. The larger the screen gets relative to your field of view, the more effective the wrapping effect. At 32″ at two feet there is a definite improvement.
