Digital Foundry offers a tech analysis of Stellar Blade on Switch 2

Digital Foundry’s latest video takes a look at Stellar Blade on Switch 2 to see if it can compete with the PS5. This includes a thorough analysis with frame generation turned on and off, as well as testing in handheld and docked modes. Overall they say it “translates relatively well” to Nintendo’s console. While not generally fans of frame generation on other consoles, they say it makes sense in this context.

  • At a glance, looks similar graphically to the PS5 version, with framerate targeting 60fps
  • Some environmental details such as foliage have been removed in some areas
  • Pop-in can occur in larger areas
  • Some reduction in level of shadows, lighting, and reflections
  • Unreal Engine 4 foundation scales well to Nintendo hardware
  • Frame generation raises rendered 30fps to 60fps output, resulting in some compromises, but overall feels smooth
  • Combat and cut scenes can see dropped frames, but returns to a consistent 60fps fairly quickly
  • With frame generation turned off, the visuals mostly look the same with framerate around 35-45fps
  • Handheld is 360p resolution internally, upscaled using DLSS, looks muddier than in docked play, but is overall acceptable
