Dehli Musikk Midnight Wurli
Midnight Wurli is a Wurlitzer 200A electric piano sampled the way it sounds when you play it quietly, late. Two sources were recorded at once: the direct line output, and a contact microphone fixed to the instrument that picks up the mechanics like key clicks, the sound of a key returning and the damper pedal going down and coming up.
A Proximity control crossfades between the two, from a clean distant line signal to an intimate close-up where the mechanism is part of the sound. Release noise and damper noise have their own levels on top of that.
The full mode holds 36 samples per key: 18 note-on and 18 release with round robins inside each velocity layer, plus 28 damper pedal samples. A Lite mode drops to one sample per velocity layer and switches the impulse responses off, for lower CPU and RAM.
The effects follow the original signal path:
- The instrument’s own tremolo (labelled vibrato on a real 200A).
- Tape echo.
- Four amplifier impulse responses, each captured with a Shure SM57 and a Royer R-121:
- Fender Twin Reverb.
- Vox AC15H1TV.
- Roland JC-120.
- Tandberg Model 2 T.
- Stereo room reverb.
2332 samples at 48 kHz / 24-bit. Only the selected mode is decoded into RAM.
