Creating parts error | MuseScore

When I create a second flute/piccolo part, the notes appear an octave lower but sound correct. I’ve experimented with several different ways to compensate. When I make changes to the part it makes changes to the orchestral notation. Very frustrating — I’ve spent hours on trying to fix this. I can’t seem to find a solution. The only part where this problem appears in is the flute 2/piccolo part.

Also, the mixer shows 3 separate flute parts (one designated as Piccolo). However, the score I created correctly shows only 2 flute parts. I can’t seem to delete the third flute part.
