CentOS Stream 10 Builds Underway

Developers from Red Hat started to the formation of CentOS Stream 10 builds and created repository with packages certified by a digital signature. The presented branch is used to develop the upcoming major release of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10. CentOS Stream allows early access to the capabilities of the future RHEL branch, but includes packages that are not yet fully stabilized. CentOS Stream 10 builds are being formed for x86_64, Aarch64, ppc64le and s390x architectures in the form of installation iso files And images for insulated containers.

In accordance with Red Hat’s new policy, the CentOS Stream repository is the only publicly available source for Red Hat Enterprise Linux packages. CentOS Stream can be considered as an upstream project for RHEL, serving as the basis for its development. With CentOS Stream, third-party community members can take part in the development of a new branch of RHEL, control the preparation of packages for RHEL, propose their changes and influence decisions made.

Before the creation of CentOS Stream, a snapshot of one of the Fedora releases was used as the basis for the new RHEL branch, which was finalized and stabilized behind closed doors, without the ability to control the progress of development and decisions made. The new development process involves moving the previously closed stage of preparation of RHEL to CentOS Stream – based on the Fedora snapshot, with the participation of the community, a new branch of CentOS Stream is formed, after which RHEL is ready, it will be rebuilt based on CentOS Stream.
