centos – Can authconfig/authselect only be used with PAM modules known by authconfig/authselect?

I have a machine running CentOS 7 with a PAM setup which has been modified without using authconfig and am looking at reproducing a similar setup on a machine running AlmaLinux 8.

My understanding of the documentation for authconfig and authselect is that they don’t know about PAM modules such as pam_radius.so or pam_motd.so. Therefore, if I want to use these modules, I shall have to continue with hand-edited config files and can’t use authselect.

Is my understanding correct?
