Cannot boot Debian 12 – Unix & Linux Stack Exchange

I have a Debian 12 (nvme0) and its bootloader was handled by Windows 10 (different storage). Now I removed the disk with Win10 and installed a new storage (nvme1) with Windows 11, but Debian does not appear as bootable OS/device.

I tried the followings:

  • Fixing with grub-install, grub-customizer
  • Tried to install Linux Mint next to Win 11 maybe will pick up Debian
  • Adding debian for Windows 11 boot manager – only GRUB console appeared
  • Fixing with GRUB console – looks like its loading finally, but never reaches the Login screen
  • I still can access to Debian by plugging the Windows 10 drive via USB, only then appear the debian boot option and successfully starts the OS

Something messed up pretty much as I tried all the possible solutions related to boot problem I found on the web, ChatGPT was running circles either.

Its an UEFI boot as Legacy boot is disabled and the root folder inlcudes /boot/efi/EFI
