Building a browser-based oscilloscope

Many of the traditional laboratory instruments available do not have the same level of user-friendliness or intuitive interface that people now expect from software applications. This project details the design and implementation browser-based oscilloscope system with waveform generator. To address this, the proposed system integrates a modern web-based frontend with embedded hardware to provide a scalable and user-friendly solution.
The system adopts a three-layer architecture consisting of a React-based frontend, a Flask backend server, and an STM32 microcontroller with a VScope hardware module (a signal acquisition and waveform generation board). User inputs from the browser are translated into control commands sent to the hardware via a USB Virtual COM port. The microcontroller performs signal acquisition using onboard analogue-to-digital conversion (ADC) and returns binary waveform data, which is processed by the backend and rendered dynamically on the frontend using a high-performance plotting library.
The implementation supports real-time waveform visualization, parameter control, and calibration features, providing functionality comparable to traditional oscilloscope systems. The browser-based approach enables platform-independent access and provides a structured interface for interaction with embedded hardware systems.
