boot – Linux Manjaro running on HP Envy x360 randomly powers off and won’t turn on on first try

I’m running Linux Manjaro on a HP Envy x360 laptop and since today my laptop started showing strange behavior:

The laptop suddenly powers off and the screen goes black (happened twice within 2 minutes of booting).
On startup I hear a short, deep ticking noise from inside the laptop.
To boot into Manjaro, I need to press the power button twice; the first time only the backlight comes on and the power button LED lights up, but nothing else happens. Pressing the button again to shut if off, then pressing again, makes it boot properly (this has been the case for about a month now).

What I checked so far:

The laptop has only an NVMe SSD, so the ticking noise cannot come from a hard disk.
smartctl shows no issues (and /dev/sda does not exist).

My questions:

What is the likely cause of the random shutdowns and booting behaviour?
What could be the cause of the weird ticking noise?
How can I fix it?
