However, Bus Peak set to Mastering mode is showing 20% with just the clipper enabled, and 26% with clipper and limiter active. The logic CPU meter confirms that there appears to be a huge load spread across multiple cores. In ‘mixing’ mode it still uses 10% with clipper and limiter on, and 7% with just the clipper.
StandardClip with oversampling at 4x appears to use a negligible amount of CPU. The manual for Bus Peak doesn’t seem to explain oversampling levels, so I don’t know what option is adequate, plus there’s no offline render quality setting.
The interface is good, in many ways better than StandardClip. Will I use it? Nope, no way. The limiter is basic, so for mastering I’d have a way better option with something as cheap as Tokyo Dawn Limiter 6 GE, which also happens to be less CPU-demanding despite have loads of features. And on a drum bus I’m not going to use something which eats 7% CPU, and which has no offline oversampling control.
Every day takes figuring out all over again how to f#ckin’ live.
