Aqua Node Phizmo
Phizmo is a transwave / wavetable synthesizer inspired by the Ensoniq Fizmo. It closely simulates its behaviour, but is not a 1:1 clone. Phizmo scans through multi-cycle wavetables (“transwaves”) along editable evolution curves, with two oscillators per voice, a full modulation set, an arpeggiator, per-voice insert effects and global reverb, and a set of real-time performance macros – a very similar setup to the original.
Phizmo loads ordinary .wav wavetables — normally 2048 samples per cycle — but it can also generate transwaves from scratch, and this is where it shines for sound design.
Phizmo has a smaller sibling plugin, PhizmOsc, that sounds a bit grittier and was the experimentation playground that lead to the full Phizmo plugin.
No original factory wavetables are included: the original Ensoniq tables are copyrighted and I (Aqua Node) prefer not to include them here in the official release. There are websites like nilamox that preserve such files and sounds, but checking if it is fine to obtain these files is up to you, to be safe.
