A highly desirable characteristic of synth filters is the ability to be modulated, especially in their cutoff frequency, to be mapped to envelopes, keytracks and LFOs.
Filters derived by digitizing analog circuits respond very well to modulation and quickly changing parameters in general. Digital filters that don’t have a physical counterpart don’t always do that.
