Saturation- how much is too much? (in: Production Technique…)

I’m struggling to put this question into words, so I’m going to give an example.

1) I tend to treat mixing and mastering as totally separate processes
2) I usually add a little saturation (Black Box) to the low end parts at the mixing stage, not usually anywhere else
3) At the mastering stage, I’ll use one of my fancier EQs and one of my fancier compressors, at quite gentle settings, followed by my usual limiter to lift the final volume level
