Usually one of the following things happen then (if I have the time and peace of course):

-> I drastically change the tempo and/or pitch to reveal a possible “hidden song underneath”
-> I improvise over the demo, then throw away everything that doesn’t fit anymore
-> I swap voices
-> I route the entire track through some special effect package and create samples as a foundation for wild remixes/revisions
-> I remake the track with simple sounds (like small General MIDI soundsets)…
