The reality is that software and hardware manufacturers support each other – they need to make new sales, otherwise there’s no profit.
Behind most “improvements” and “advancements” is the need for profit.
For example, if all VSTi writers implemented multithreading similar to Diva, and didn’t use modern Win graphical APIs or newer CPU instruction sets, literally every new synth would run on 1st gen Intels without a glitch. Artificial restrictions are imposed, just like Microsoft does it with Wind…
