I strongly disagree personally. I simply hate it (and always have), when a piece of software wastes cpu cycles completely unnecessarily mostly due to brute force programming – which nowadays is more and more the case. Just because computers nowadays have more power it does _not_ mean that a developer shouldn’t care about performance because maximum gain is maximum gain.
