When done correctly, it will give you more or less the same results visually as if you had simply drawn a line through all the samples using a fixed angle square brush. This results in slight variation with line width depending on angle of the line, namely if we have 1 unit line width for horizontal and vertical lines, then at 45 degree diagonal the line width becomes about 1.4 time as wide. It’s not drastic and generally looks just fine for narrow line widths.
