azure – Newbie mistake with tenant and now locked out
I’ve made a newbie mistake with my tenant and I’m now effectively locked out of my tenant. Being the only person in the tenant, I now have an active subscription.
Here’s what I’ve done so far:
signed up with my own email address
created a subscription with my card details
created a VM and connected it via RDP
created a storage account and file share
granted myself the Storage File Data SMB Share Contributor role
installed the Azure Storage Explorer
after getting an authentication error in the Azure Storage Explorer, I tried setting my account to an internal B2B collaborator adding my first name before the @onmicrosoft address.
the authentication error in Azure Storage Explorer remained so I changed in back to external. It asked for an email address and I think I put in my original address from step 1.
I cannot now log back in and get the following error when I try to: { “sessionId”: “7145c66a5c7541e1884ef46ec39**”, “errors”: [ { “errorMessage”: “interaction_required: AADSTS16000: User account ‘{EUII Hidden}’ from identity provider ‘live.com‘ does not exist in tenant ‘Microsoft Services’ and cannot access the application ‘f9885e6e-6f74-46b3-b595-350157a*****'(Microsoft_AAD_UsersAndTenants) in that tenant. The account needs to be added as an external user in the tenant first. Sign out and sign in again with a different Azure Active Directory user account. Trace ID: b7b86e8c-cba2-4aba-85b3-c8921cf***** Correlation ID: 5111c1dd-5fdf-441e-b27c-2a6c6d5***** Timestamp: 2025-10-26 11:10:06Z”, “clientId”: “f9885e6e-6f74-46b3-b595-350157a*****”, “scopes”: [ “74658136-14ec-4630-ad9b-26e160ff0fc6/.default” ] } ] }
Luckily, I’m still on my free credit (approx £140 remaining) and deallocated the VM I was testing, so I doubt I’ll be charged.
I can’t raise a support ticket with MS because I cannot log in.
Any ideas?
Thanks.
Abrar
