ubuntu – Keeping pipewire clients from autoconnecting to jack outputs

I want to use Carla and/or Raysession to add effects to my media playing software (mainly Kodi). I notice that as soon as my media software produces audio, it is routed in Carla to the output, while it should go to my effects first. I disconnect and repatch to the effects but it always connects back to both the effects and the output device.

To prevent this I created:

~/.config/pipewire/jack.conf.d/custom.conf :

jack.properties = {
    jack.self-connect-mode  = fail-all
}

But this does not seem to have any effect. I tried Ubuntu 24.04 and 25.04.

What am I doing wrong?
