Pump Head Induced Shaft Safety Analysis On A Centrifugal Pump Using FreeCAD
Shaft is a critical component in a centrifugal pump system, transmitting power through rotary or axial motion, ensuring shaft safety is a must. In centrifugal pumps, the capacity of a pump is determined by the pump head (in meters) and the maximum delivery flow rate at a specific shaft speed, with the load on the shaft varying during operation. This study employs finite element analysis (FEA) to simulate the effects of different pump heads on shaft safety. The results indicate that Condition 1 (10 m discharge head) is safe, with stress levels within allowable limits. Condition 2 (15 m discharge head) requires caution, as elevated stress levels may reduce the shaft lifespan. Condition 3 (20 m discharge head) is unsafe, with stress levels exceeding material limits, posing a significant risk of fractures.
