Update repeatedly breaking raspberry pi – Batocera.Linux

So I have a batocera build for the raspberry pi3 b plus that fails to post and boot up after a reboot after updating to the latest build through the menu. 3rd time in a row testing different pi(s), SD cards, and builds.

I had autoresized the SD card successfully prior to make space for an update using the autoresize=true in /boot/batocera-boot.conf. (6 GB prior to updating free)

When I update from OS version 30 2021/03/02 it is successful, but the system does not come back from a reboot.

This is 100% reproducible as I have done this 3 times in a row now.

System: Linux 5.10.14-v7

The autoresize reboot was successful on the ext4 FS of /user/data. afterwards of course the field is commented out and reboots have no issue. This go around I will record the pre-update OS version and not perform the autoresize but just delete roms. (to rule that out)

After that I will try the manual update:

What other information is needed and is this the right forum? I certainly imagine others on pi are experiencing this issue. 2 different build iso builds. (both ext4 on the /userdata)
